A major battery energy storage system (BESS) project is being proposed for the northern part of Brooke-Alvinston, led by the same company that previously pitched an unsuccessful wind energy project earlier this year. According to a Venfor Strathroy Corporation director, the company, operating under the name Sun Valley Power, is planning a 400-megawatt battery storage facility along Churchill Line.
The project would have the capacity to store enough electricity to power approximately 360,000 homes, making it nearly twice the size of the 240-megawatt project proposed by RES near Inwood. According to the municipality’s Clerk/Administrator, a community engagement session is planned, and company representatives will appear before Brooke-Alvinston Council on November 13th.
