On November 4, 2025, Middlesex County proudly hosted five high school students from across the region for its annual “Warden for a Day” initiative. The program offered a unique, hands-on opportunity for students to explore municipal government, gain insight into the role of County Council, and understand how local decisions shape community life.

Participants from area schools including SDCI’s Benjamin Watkins spent the day at the County Administration Building alongside Warden Brian Ropp. Their day began with a formal welcome and mock swearing-in ceremony, followed by a “Who We Are” presentation and guided tours of both the Administration Building and the historic Middlesex County Gaol. Students also took part in job-shadowing experiences across departments such as Forestry and Natural Heritage, Library Services, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, and Economic Development and Tourism.
The experience concluded with an in-depth conversation with Warden Ropp about the challenges and rewards of public service. Students then had the opportunity to observe an official Middlesex County Council meeting, gaining firsthand understanding of how local government decisions are made and implemented.
