The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is giving aspiring student-athletes a unique opportunity to balance academic success with high-performance sport through its Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD).
The program sees student-athletes spend half of their school day at the ASAD campus at the Komoka Wellness Centre, where they take part in daily strength and conditioning or sport-specific training. The other half of the day is spent at their home TVDSB school.
This structure allows students to maintain eligibility and prepare for post-secondary opportunities in Canada, the United States, or internationally while staying connected to their families and local communities.
The program currently offers streams in hockey, volleyball, and a broad individual sports stream, which has seen athletes who participate in track and field, gymnastics, figure skating, cycling, wrestling and more.
Students in the Individual Sports Stream receive 180+ training sessions, monthly mental performance and nutrition seminars, and personalized athletic programming—all while earning full academic credit.
An open house for interested students and families is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the ASAD campus, 1 Tunks Lane, Komoka.
