Residents in Strathroy, Komoka, and western Middlesex County are being advised to prepare for quickly changing weather conditions today, as Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Watch for a snow squall and a Yellow Warning for strong winds.
Forecasters say a sharp cold front is moving through the area late this morning into early this afternoon. As it passes, a brief but intense burst of snow is expected. Snowfall could reach up to five centimetres in as little as one hour, with strong winds causing blowing snow and very poor visibility at times.
The sudden drop in temperature may also lead to icy and slippery roads. Travel conditions could become dangerous very quickly, and drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and be ready for possible road closures.
At the same time, strong winds are expected throughout the day. Wind gusts from the southwest and northwest could reach between 80 and 90 kilometres per hour before easing later this evening. These winds may cause power outages and minor property damage, such as downed tree branches or loose objects being blown around.
Officials recommend securing loose items outdoors and staying informed as conditions change. While the weather may be challenging for a short time, the snow squall is expected to move through quickly.
Environment Canada encourages residents to continue checking forecasts and alerts throughout the day and to use extra caution if heading out.
