Strathroy-Caradoc’s Fire Chief wants kids to have fun in this winter weather but to do so safely. With the temperature rising quite a bit this week from where it just was, Chief Steve Beazley says the ice on waterways is unstable again.
The Chief says there are times when it can be ok to clear some snow off the ice on area ponds.
And he recommends staying close to shore where the water is more shallow and the ice thicker. He tells myFM about another safety concern lately.
A scary stat about snow forts from the fire department. Snow is heavier than you might think. If a snow fort is six feet under the snow, a collapse could place about 1,000 pounds of snow on top of a child.
