The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has lifted quarantines at four of the five Strathroy-Caradoc poultry farms where avian influenza was detected late last year. The agency confirmed that two farms had their primary control zone designations revoked on Feb. 6th, followed by two more on Feb. 14th. One poultry farm in Strathroy-Caradoc remains under an active bird flu designation.
Primary control zones are lifted once post-outbreak surveillance is complete and no additional cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza are found. According to the CFIA, the surveillance process spans 28 days and includes monitoring for dead birds as well as onsite inspections. If no further cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza are detected during that period, the designation can be removed. Five commercial turkey farms in Strathroy-Caradoc were identified as outbreak sites between Nov. 14th and Nov. 29th 2025. The outbreaks led to the euthanization of approximately 95,000 birds.
