The Municipality of Southwest Middlesex has secured up to $4,296,050 in provincial support through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream to advance a major stormwater upgrade in Glencoe.
The Glencoe Outlet Drain Stormwater Conveyance Improvement Project carries a total eligible cost of $5,885,000. The remaining $1,588,950 — approximately 27 per cent — will be jointly funded by the municipality and the county.
The project will significantly modernize Glencoe’s drainage infrastructure, adding 1.25 kilometres of new storm sewer to improve how water moves through the community. Municipal officials say the improvements will enhance the town’s stormwater capacity, lower the risk of flooding during extreme weather events, and safeguard homes, roads, and neighbourhoods well into the future. Construction is currently forecasted to begin in March 2027, with completion anticipated by September 2028.
Mayor Allan Mayhew emphasized the significance of the investment for the community: “This funding is transformational for Glencoe and for Southwest Middlesex. It allows us to take meaningful action to reduce stormwater risk, strengthen our local infrastructure, and protect the homes and neighbourhoods families rely on every day. We are sincerely grateful to the Province of Ontario for investing in rural communities like ours.”
Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton–Kent–Middlesex, added: “Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities. Through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, our government is investing in projects that protect residents while enabling housing growth across Ontario. Supporting this upgrade in Glencoe will help ensure Southwest Middlesex has the infrastructure in place to build, grow, and thrive.”
