Last week, MPP Steve Pinsonneault announced that the Ontario government will invest up to $3,350,262 to upgrade water infrastructure in the Township of Warwick. The funding is being provided through the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS).
The program has recently received an additional $700 million in funding, bringing the total available to $875 million. The investment is intended to support communities by improving access to safe drinking water, enabling housing development, creating jobs, and helping municipalities better withstand extreme weather events. In Warwick, the funding will be used to upgrade the Watford storm sewer and water system.
“Investing in Warwick’s water infrastructure is an important step in keeping our community safe and prepared for the future. Upgrading the Watford storm sewer and water system will protect residents during extreme weather and boost local economic growth. These projects are building the foundation for stronger services across our riding.” said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton–Kent–Middlesex.
“After experiencing two significant weather events in 2023 and 2024, our municipality needed financial support to implement a long-term solution that moves water away from Watford and better protects our residents and infrastructure,” said Mayor Todd Case. “This funding allows us to address the impacts of those storms, replace aging watermains, and take meaningful steps to safeguard our community for years to come.”
“As we continue to navigate economic uncertainty and unwarranted U.S. tariffs, our government is protecting Ontario by investing in critical infrastructure that drives growth, creates jobs and strengthens communities,” said Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure. “Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are giving municipalities and First Nations the tools they need to get shovels in the ground and build stronger communities. Our investments will deliver more homes, modernize aging water systems and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity across Ontario.”
