As myFM reported to you last week, the Ford government will start allowing people to bring their own alcoholic beverages to events like neighbourhood festivals, farmer’s markets and movie screenings starting April 30th. Municipalities will be required to pass a bylaw authorizing the use of alcohol in public if they don’t already have one. We talked to Strathroy-Caradoc Director of Community Services Rob Lilbourne.
Event organizers would have to apply for bring-your-own permits through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission.
Hypothetically if the event is licensed and there is a by-law in place, someone could potentially walk into an event’s beverage garden with a 6-pack, if the event organizing group chooses that road according to Lilbourne.
As far as next steps, Lilbourne says the Municipality has yet to see any regulations, but communication with local groups and event organizers could be the natural next step.
myFM will continue to follow this developing story.
