Strathroy-Caradoc Council received an update this week on the Tri-Township Arena, focusing on a second design option prepared by contractor a+LiNK. The report, requested at the March 2 meeting, outlined several challenges with expanding the facility on the north (baseball) side. Key concerns include the lack of a sprinkler system, exit distance limits, and maintaining safe evacuation routes, particularly from the mezzanine level.
The proposed addition would compromise existing exits and create structural and design complications. Even with potential sprinkler upgrades, significant costs and safety concerns would remain. Additional issues include restricted movement in the dressing room corridor and operational impacts, such as reduced access for loading and disruptions to team facilities, including the Bulldogs dressing room. Council accepted the report for information.
