It’s time for our daily ANIMAL HOUSE SHOWCASE feature…today we’re looking closer at Pawsitive Pet Stuff. Owner Dawn Creces says the business first opened in 2017 on Second Street before moving to Front Street in in Strathroy in 2021. Along with professional grooming and styling services, the business also offers pet toys, treats, and some dog food products.
She says her love for dogs started at a young age, growing up in a family involved in boarding, grooming, and training animals. Creces says she has now been grooming dogs for more than 40 years and has also worked with veterinarians while breeding and showing standard poodles.
Creces explains that all dogs, no matter their breed or coat type, need regular grooming and care. She says shorter-coated dogs should generally be groomed every few months, while dogs that require haircuts may need appointments every four to ten weeks depending on their coat length.
For puppies, Creces recommends introducing them to grooming around 12 weeks old after receiving their second vaccine. Early visits help puppies become comfortable with baths, nail trims, dryers, and standing still during grooming appointments.
She also encourages owners of nervous dogs to work slowly at home and use positive training techniques to help pets become more comfortable with grooming activities like baths and nail trims.
