The Glencoe District Lions Club and the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex have officially launched the Project 2000 Revitalization Campaign, a major community initiative aimed at upgrading the Project 2000 pavilion and washroom facilities at the Southwest Middlesex Recreation Centre.
The campaign builds on the Lions Club’s long-standing connection to the facility, which was originally constructed in 2000 through community fundraising efforts led by the organization. The revitalization project is being spearheaded by the Glencoe District Lions Club, with administrative and fundraising support from the municipality.
Southwest Middlesex council has approved the project, which is focused on improving accessibility, enhancing functionality, and modernizing the appearance of the facility that has served local residents and visitors for more than 25 years. The Glencoe District Lions Club has committed an initial $20,000 contribution toward the project.
Planned improvements include new accessible washroom partitions, upgraded counters, sinks and faucets, automatic flush and touchless fixtures, new entrance doors and hardware, interior and exterior painting, general repairs and maintenance, and an overall beautification of the building.
Municipal officials say the upgrades are being completed ahead of the busy summer season and in preparation for major fastball tournaments expected to be partially hosted in the community over the coming years. The events are anticipated to attract between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors annually to Southwest Middlesex, providing a significant opportunity to showcase the area to athletes, families, and spectators from across the region.
In addition to supporting tourism and large-scale sporting events, the refreshed facility will continue to play an important role in local recreation programming, tournaments, and community gatherings for years to come.
The Municipality has also entered into a service agreement for operation of the booth facility, ensuring it will once again be open and actively used to provide amenities and services throughout the season.
As part of the campaign launch, the Glencoe District Lions Club and Municipality of Southwest Middlesex are encouraging local businesses, organizations, community groups, families, and residents to support the initiative through sponsorships and donations.
“Project 2000 has been an important part of our community for more than two decades, and these upgrades will help ensure the facility continues to serve residents and visitors well into the future,” said Mayor Allan Mayhew. “Council is proud to support this revitalization project and grateful for the continued leadership and partnership of the Glencoe District Lions Club as we work together to enhance this important community asset.”
“The Lions Club is proud to continue supporting a facility that has meant so much to the community over the years,” said Gerald Reycraft on behalf of the Glencoe District Lions Club. “We are excited to see these improvements move forward and encourage others to get involved in supporting the project.”
