Strathroy-Caradoc council has given the green light to an organic waste green bin program, set to start April 1st of next year. But council decided to tweak the staff recommendation which would have seen regular garbage collection go to every other week once the program starts. Deputy Mayor Mike McGuire was the first to express second thoughts.
McGuire says the cost wouldn’t be much different over the year for households and they could keep an eye on the situation.
The total cost to households is expected to be about $185 per year, with weekly regular garbage pickup still also included. Councillor Donna Pammer had a question about how BIG these wheelie green bins are…the same size as the large blue lid recycliing bins according to Manager of Environment Services Greg Henderson.
Councillor Greg Willsie was torn on whether to keep collecting regular garbage weekly as well.
So again, the green bin program is set to start April 1st, 2027 in Strathroy-Caradoc with a lot of public education from town hall still to come.
