The Ontario government is providing $851,000 to support infrastructure improvements at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, helping maintain and modernize key systems within the facility. The funding will be used to upgrade the hospital’s uninterruptible power supply, improve sanitary waste piping, and replace the inverted roofing system.
The investment is part of a province-wide commitment of $257 million aimed at infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 126 hospitals and 66 community health-care facilities across Ontario. With this latest announcement, total provincial funding provided to Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital for the 2025-2026 fiscal year reaches $6.49 million.
The funding is being delivered through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, which supports hospitals and health-care organizations in addressing important repair and renewal projects. The program helps facilities maintain safe and dependable environments for both patients and staff through upgrades to essential infrastructure, including roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms and emergency generators. Provincial funding for the program increased by 12.3 per cent in 2025.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault said investments in hospital infrastructure are vital to ensuring health-care facilities remain safe, reliable and capable of meeting the needs of patients and frontline workers. He noted the project will strengthen critical hospital systems and help ensure residents continue to have access to quality care within their own communities.
Middlesex Hospital Alliance President and CEO Julie McBrien welcomed the funding, noting the upgrades will enhance important building systems within the aging hospital, support a dependable care environment and help the organization continue delivering high-quality care close to home.
The announcement is part of Ontario’s long-term plan to strengthen health-care infrastructure. Over the next decade, the province plans to invest nearly $60 billion in major health-care projects, including more than 50 hospital developments that are expected to add approximately 3,000 new hospital beds while expanding access to care across Ontario.
