This year’s Beachfest in Grand Bend is putting a stronger focus on families and children.
Paul Rivard, president of the Grand Bend Optimist Club, says the change comes after several years of seeing growing interest in family-focused attractions at the event.
One of the event’s biggest attractions will be the return of the Karaoke Idol Contest. Twelve contestants will compete on the Beachfest stage between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The winner will receive an $800 prize and earn the opportunity to perform “O Canada” during Grand Bend’s Canada Day celebrations just before the fireworks.
Rivard says the fun doesn’t stop there!
The entertainment lineup will also include tribute performances featuring the music of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
Rivard says public response to the new format has been very positive, with many families already planning to attend.
Those interested in taking part in the Karaoke Idol Contest can register for free through the Grand Bend Optimist Club website or attend qualifying events at Crabby Joe’s in Grand Bend.
The event will run from 10 a.m. until early evening on June 20th and is supported by numerous local businesses and community sponsors.
