A popular local music festival is returning this summer, bringing live entertainment and fundraising together for two important causes. The Rockin’ Wheel Festival will celebrate its 21st year on July 3rd welcoming music fans from across the region to enjoy two days of performances while supporting spinal cord research and local mental health initiatives.
Ken Allore, president of Rockin’ Wheel for Spinal Cord Research, said the event began more than two decades ago as a way to bring people together through music while raising awareness and funds.
The event has been going on for more than 20 years and Allore is still blown away by all the support from the community.
Allore, who became a quadriplegic after suffering a spinal cord injury at age 17, said proceeds from the festival support two important causes.
The event is licensed and open to those 19 years of age and older. Rockin’ Wheel is also looking for volunteers, particularly those with Smart Serve certification, to help during the festival.
Allore said the festival would not be possible without the support of local businesses, volunteers, sponsors, and the community.
While fundraising totals vary from year to year, the festival donated $10,000 last year to spinal cord research and mental health programs.
He said the goal is about more than raising money.
Tickets are available online through TicketScene and can also be purchased at several local businesses, including Domino’s Pizza locations in Strathroy, Komoka, and Mount Brydges, CDS Pharmacy, and Trinity Rose Hairstyle.
On Friday, organizers of the Rockin’ Wheel festival have announced the cancellation of their Saturday, July 4th concert featuring The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
In a statement released on social media, organizers said the event, which also included performances by Bill Durst, Joel Dupuis, and Ian VanOosterhout, has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control.
Those who purchased tickets online through TicketScene are being directed to the ticket provider for refund information. Organizers say they are also working on the refund process for tickets purchased in person and will provide updates as soon as possible.
Despite the cancellation, Rockin’ Wheel’s Country Night on Friday, July 3rd will still go ahead as planned. This year’s lineup includes country star Aaron Goodvin and Dry County, along with Copper Sky and Olivia Mae Graham.
Organizers say anyone holding a July 4th ticket will be able to use that ticket to attend the July 3rd Country Night event.
