After a successful debut last year, Strathroy’s Almost Canada Day celebration is set to return to the SDCI/HCC Athletic Track, bigger and better on June 30th. myFM spoke with committee member Matt LaBerge who told us what people can expect from this year’s celebrations.
While the celebration takes place the night before Canada Day, LaBerge says there is a good reason for the timing.
The event officially begins at 6 p.m. Food vendors and activities will be available throughout the evening, with live entertainment taking place on stage.
Admission is free, although parking at the venue will cost $20. Free shuttle buses will operate throughout the evening, with routes serving Strathroy and Mount Brydges. Laberge hopes to provide live tracking information online so residents can easily find shuttle locations and schedules.
All proceeds from parking, donations, food, and beverage sales will support local school breakfast programs through the Ontario Student Nutrition Program. Last year, the event raised $10,000 for the initiative, with all funds staying in the Strathroy area.
Laberge says the committee is currently looking for volunteers to help with parking, greeting guests, and other event duties. Anyone interested in helping can contact the committee through social media.
LaBerge says community support and local sponsors are key to making the event possible and encourages residents to come out and celebrate while supporting a great cause.
