The best plowmen in the country will be coming to the area this September for the Canadian Plowing Championship with events all week and the competition itself running September 2nd to 4th at 3258 Egremont Drive in Adelaide Metcalfe, with host farmers Junior and Karen Van Geffen. Patrick Sanders, Co-Chair of the Canadian Plowing Championships for 2026 says this is huge for the area.
Sanders says the championships will feature skilled competitors from across Canada as they demonstrate the precision and technique needed to compete for the national title. He says there is a process to find local farming hosts.
The event is open to the public, giving visitors a chance to watch the competition, learn more about agriculture, and support the local farming community. Contestants will be competing to become the Canadian Plowing Champion in the Senior Conventional, Senior Reversible and Junior Conventional classes.
Sanders says the event itself is more than just a competition.
The Senior Champions will be eligible to plow at the 2027 World Ploughing Championships. It is free and open to the public for the competition which runs from about 10am until early to mid-afternoon. There will be parking by donation with a local 4H group. There will also be a big fundraising BBQ and Auction, its the one fundraiser that the Canadian Plowing Organization does annually and it will be Wednesday September 2nd, a ticketed event.
