myFM and numerous dedicated volunteers and sponsors were set up in four locations, Superstore and Food Basics in Strathroy and the No Frills stores in Glencoe and Komoka last Thursday, collecting food and cash donations. At the end of the day, four SUV’s, a trailer, box truck and pickup truck were filled with food and other donations and dropped off at five local food banks.
One of them was the Women’s Rural Resource Centre and we talked with Executive Director Elyssa Rose.
Rose says they can’t thank the community enough.
Volunteers play a big role on food drive day and this year that included members of both the Strathroy Rockets and Komoka Kings. Kings player Tristan tells myFM it’s a good thing to do.
The title sponsor of the food drive, Commonwealth Financial, even matched donations and funds raised dollar for dollar for a full hour at two locations. Close to $2,000 was raised and food drive shoppers went out to purchase food and other item to add to the donations.
