Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, which killed almost 3-thousand people in New York, at the Pentagon in Virginia and in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Among them, were 343 New York City Firefighters, who died when the World Trade Center Towers collapsed.
This is a sombre day at fire halls across the U.S. and Canada including here in Strathroy-Caradoc, where Fire Chief Steve Beazley tells myFM something special will happen this morning, to observe the tragic anniversary.
Chief Beazley says it really hit home for him in the days following 9-11, as the number of New York firefighters who died would have been the entire London fire department at the time.
