Strathroy-Caradoc Police are reminding residents that electric kick-style scooters, commonly known as E-Scooters, are not permitted on public property in the municipality.
E-Scooters are electric-powered scooters with a platform to stand on between two wheels and a steerable handlebar. While they have become increasingly popular for transportation and recreation, their use is restricted under Ontario law.
Under Ontario Regulation 389/19, E-Scooters are prohibited from being operated on highways, sidewalks, trails, paths, walkways, public parks or exhibition grounds unless the municipality has passed a by-law allowing and regulating their use.
Strathroy-Caradoc Police say the municipality has not enacted a by-law permitting E-Scooters.
That means residents cannot ride or operate an E-Scooter on public property anywhere in Strathroy-Caradoc.
Police say anyone found operating an E-Scooter in violation of the regulations could face fines or be required to appear in court.
