A proposed private golf and hunting development on Olde Drive generated a number of concerns during a public meeting at Strathroy-Caradoc Council Monday night.
The proposal for 9221 Olde Drive would amend the Municipality’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law to allow a private golf course and clubhouse featuring 12 two-bedroom accommodation units, along with an expansion of an existing hunting facility.
During Monday’s meeting, Council heard from both the applicant and neighbouring residents.
Concerns raised included groundwater and protection of private wells, environmental impacts, stormwater management, pesticide use, firearm activity and safety, noise, property setbacks and fencing.
Residents also raised questions about the potential impact the development could have on nearby agricultural, residential and equestrian operations.
The applicant acknowledged that more technical work and approvals are still required. Issues including water management, buffering, fencing and site design are expected to be addressed as the application moves through the planning and site plan processes.
Municipal staff told Council several technical matters remain under review.
The proposal also calls for the existing home on the property to be removed, with a new residence constructed on a proposed lot in the southeast portion of the property. Creation of that lot would require a separate severance application and decision by the Municipality’s Committee of Adjustment.
No decision on the golf and hunting development was made Monday night. Council received the report for information and the application remains under review.
