Downtown Strathroy is set to receive another piece of public art after Strathroy-Caradoc Council approved funding for a new permanent mural Monday night.
Council approved the Downtown Strathroy Business Improvement Area’s application for $4,875 through the Municipality’s Public Art & Interim Use Program.
The funding will support the creation of a permanent mural on the west-facing wall of 70 Front Street West in downtown Strathroy.
The project is part of the BIA’s Canvas & Culture programming and will be created by local artist Megan Oldhues of OldHues Art and Design Inc.
The artwork will feature a farm-family scene centred around a tire swing, with the Municipality saying the design is intended to reflect the rural character and relaxed spirit of Strathroy-Caradoc.
The project is also expected to enhance the downtown streetscape while promoting local art, culture and community identity.
