It’s Small Business Week here on myFM, sponsored by the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.
Running a small business comes with challenges, but for Adam Rice, owner of Elevate Kitchen and Bath in Strathroy, seeing his business grow has made the hard work worthwhile.
He originally hoped to open a tile store, but things changed, and the business moved into bathroom products and renovations.
Over time, Elevate Kitchen and Bath has grown from taking on smaller jobs to working on larger projects that include kitchen and bathroom design.
Rice says his interest in design and years of experience in construction helped shape the business into what it is today.
One of the biggest challenges, he says, has been getting the business known and attracting customers. Building a name takes time, especially when starting out.
Despite those challenges, Rice says he is proud of how far the business has come and the opportunities it is now getting.
For Rice, being a small business owner also means being part of the community. Although he grew up in the Greater Toronto Area, he says he enjoys raising his children in Strathroy and building his business here.
One of the most rewarding parts has been watching his children see the business grow and take pride in what he has accomplished.
He has this advice for those wanting to start their own business.
While running a business can bring plenty of challenges, Rice says those struggles can lead to successes and personal achievements that make the journey worthwhile.
