Hamilton’s Bakery in downtown Strathroy is celebrating its 80th Anniversary!
Husband/wife team Pat and Joanne have been running the bakery for over 36 years while Pat’s parents started it back in 1946 baking up their tasty treats for 44 years.
Pat, who does all the baking, says things have definitely changed over the years.
Joanne, who decorates and runs the business tells myFM it was wonderful to have their children working at the bakery, too, as they were growing up.
Pat and Joanne reminisced about the early days of the bakery and how much people in town LOVED their donuts and wanted them to start making them again.
But expensive safety equipment needed to make donuts now is one of the reasons they’re not getting back into the donut world. But Pat says Strathroy was once a big donut town.
And that was from a high of 60 to 70 dozen donuts a day during their peak when Hamilton’s supplied the hospital, highschool, Strathmere Lodge and many of the factories in town.
Some of the tasty treats in the bakery have been Pat and Joanne’s own creations including their bears, meringue penguins and all-butter croissants.
The couple, who admit they haven’t really discussed retirement much yet, have this message for their loyal customers.
To help celebrate their 80th Anniversary one of the many special things Hamilton’s has been doing is giving anyone who was born the same year as their bakery opened, 1946, a free cake!
