Tyler Kettler (Non-parent Head Coach Strathroy Minor Hockey)
Tyler Kettler is a non-parent Head Coach for a Strathroy Minor Hockey Peewee Rep team. Kettler was asked on to start coaching about five years ago, and took a real liking to it after getting settled in. This is his first go as a head coach. Sticking with the game he loved after wrapping up playing is what appealed to him, staying around the rink and being part of a team although in a different fashion. He says you take a lot of pride in the development of the kids and seeing the joy the 12-year-olds have for playing the game. The 25-year-old said self-reflection is important as well especially in his first year running a team, making sure they’re doing right by the kids and themselves. He feels he got lucky with the parenting group as well this year. They provide a lot of support which Kettler feels is like half the battle if it was any other way. Preparation is important Kettler said and to make sure if you want to coach, don’t just jump right into it. Ensure it’s the right decision for you because at times it’s overwhelming and you want to give the kids a positive experience.
