Curling fans in the area should take a special interest in this year’s Canadian men’s championship as The Brier begins February 29th from Kingston and will have some local flavour on the pebbled ice. Strathroy resident Jake Higgs is the import player for team Nunavut and will skip the northern team at the Brier.
He says he’s been at the Brier as a spectator but this experience will be something else.
Team Nunavut will open up the Brier against PEI and with the new format 16 teams will be split into two pools with 4 teams advancing out of each pool into the championship pool. Higgs and Team Nunavut will be in tough as their pool will have teams skipped by juggernaut curlers Brad Gushue, Brad Jacobs and Brendan Bottcher.
