After recently moving to Strathroy, Joanna Beaubien’s world was flipped upside down when her husband Michael passed away from a fentanyl overdose in November. Now, Beaubien wants to help spread the message of the dangers of fentanyl which, she says, have left her a widowed mother of three young children.
Beaubien says that her husband began using drugs when he was 13 and had tried to quit multiple times. But, like many, she says he fell back into it.
Continuing, Beaubien explains that her husband had been to detox but had issues getting into rehab. Beaubien says, unfortunately, that’s far too common in a system she believes needs changes.
Beaubien says it important to recognize the signs of addiction, which can completely control someone who is using.
Looking to the future, Beaubien is hopeful more work can be done to address Canada’s opioid epidemic, which has torn apart her young family.
