Strathroy-Caradoc Council recently unanimously denied a temporary noise permit request from Trout Haven Park stemming off the advice of Police Chief Mark Campbell.
The application was to allow Trout Haven Park on Park Street to have granted temporary noise permits for the holiday weekends in May, July, August and Labor Day weekend in September. CAO Fred Tranquilli said the Chief’s letter to council made it necessary for municipal staff to present noise exemption applications to council.
Police Chief Campbell wrote that police had received complaints about a September 9th, 2020 event at the park where a band was causing “unnecessary noise” and was in fact instructed by police to stop playing. Campbell went on to say “As our community starts to transition out of the pandemic, many residents may still be cautious to travel away from their homes and will choose to celebrate outdoors in their own yards. Permitting a band to play may result in many calls being made to the police.”
