Strathroy-Caradoc’s former Fire Chief Brian George is enjoying retirement as of this past Friday. After almost 37 years in the Fire Service industry, with his career starting as a front line firefighter in London in 1985, Chief George has had an extensive career.
Chief George spent 23 years working for the union in London, and then he spent 10 years representing firefighters at the provincial level in Queen’s Park, following that returned to London for 5 years as a Deputy before retiring from the career London Service to come out and be Chief in Strathroy-Caradoc.
He said that he credits the volunteer firefighters for taking time away from their families and for the community. Something that he said he had to learn when he took on the roll.
As for what Chief George is looking forward to in his retirement, he said that fishing and playing with his four grandsons are some of the things.
In his final two weeks, he helped to transition new Chief Brent Smith into the roll. He says he is going to miss the team they have, the fire fighters but also the municipality.
