Both Strathroy and Mount Brydges stations responded Friday morning to Oxford Street in Strathroy to a call with smoke showing and alarm sounding.
Upon arrival, a woman was taken from an apartment and turned over to London/Middlesex EMS and transported to hospital to be checked out.
The fire originated in a sofa and the cause of the fire is careless discarding of smoking materials. Damage was confined to the sofa that was removed to the exterior for extinguishment and the unit was ventilated and readings were taken after ventilation to confirm no further extension of the fire and air quality was good.
