The Brooke-Alvinston & Watford Fall Fair, which normally kicks off tonight, has been scaled back due to COVID-19. Most events for the weekend will take place outside, under the protection of the brand new 6,500 square foot community pavilion. By housing events and displays outside it allows the general public access without having to show proof of being vaccinated. The pavilion will host a beer garden, pet show for ages 14 and under, scarecrow contest, pumpking and pumpqueen contest, backyard oasis contest, photo essay contest along with music & entertainment both tonight and tomorrow night. Tonight is the welcomed return of the annual Tractor Pull starting at 7:30 pm. Youth ages 18 and under will have free admission, adults are $20.00 each to enter and East of 40 will be the musical entertainment for the evening.
On Saturday October 2nd a fall parade will take place at noon and entrants are asked to be at Munro Honey for 11:00 am to be judged. Following the parade the Vintage Tractor Pull will take place at the fair grounds and admission is free for everyone. From 4:30 – 7:00 pm the sold out drive-thru roast beef dinner will be taking place.
The only indoor event of the weekend is taking place Saturday night with the return of senior hockey to Alvinston. The newly formed Alvinston Killer Bees Senior Hockey Club will face off against the Elora Rock which gets underway at 8:00 pm. Killer Bee President Shawn Dickey states, “We have a solid yet entertaining team put together for the season, and the support so far has exceeded expectations with some 58 companies sponsoring plus dozens of individuals pledging financial support to see a higher level team return to Alvinston – its just great to see in such a small town”.
One lucky spectator will have a chance to win $10,000.00 on a rapid fire shootout during the second intermission. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it will be a ‘first in line’ entry basis as tickets are only available at the door. Three Quarter Crush will be entertaining the age of majority crowd under the pavilion, where the public is welcome to come out and enjoy the music and social from 8:00 pm – 1:00 am. If you have a game ticket the admission is free, otherwise it will only cost you $10.00 to enter.
Prizes of $2500 – $4000.00 will be awarded at the much anticipated Demolition Derby on Sunday October 3rd starting at 1:00 pm. The Demo Derby will show case all different models of cars and trucks and is typically one of the largest draws to the annual fair. This year if you are under 18 there is not cost to watch, however adult admission is $20.00.
New this year is an online ‘Fairshare 50/50 Draw’ which is a joint venture between the Alvinston, Petrolia and Brigden fair associations. Unfortunately with the cancellation of the area fall fairs there are still ongoing expenses, so the three associations hope that they can still raise some much needed funds. The payout from the 50/50 is anticipated to be similar to last weekend’s Glencoe Fair 50/50 draw which paid out $68,000.00 to the winner! $10.00 gets you three tickets, to buy yours go to www.fairshare5050.com.
