Winter is officially here, and back again is the snow, the ice, and the cold temperatures. Driving in the winter is always an adjustment after that first snow fall of the year, and the Strathroy-Caradoc Police have some advice on how to stay safe while on the roads this winter. Constable Michelle McIntyre says that they recommend having your car checked before winter or at the beginning of the season to make sure everything is okay. She added that before you hit the road be sure to scrape off all the snow and ice from your car, its dangerous to leave it as it can blow off and cause issues for other drivers. Another piece of advice is to leave enough room between you and the car in front of you, so that both can stop safely. Another tip is to have an emergency winter kit.
If you find yourself in an emergency situation, no matter if you have a kit or not, Constable McIntyre recommends staying in the vehicle if the weather is bad and visibility is low until someone can come help you.
