Appin Park is getting an upgrade soon. The Municipality of Southwest Middlesex recently put out a request for proposal to help update the park on Wellington Street. Mayor Allan Mayhew told myFM that the park is a little dated and improvements are needed.
The town set a budget for the park in January for $200,000 before taxes. However, Mayor Mayhew said if they need to go over budget to make the park more accessible and inclusive for all, they will.
Mayor Mayhew also mentioned that the Municipality has been accused of being ‘Glencoe centric’ and he stresses that it simply isn’t true.
There are consultation requirements for municipalities in the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation under the Design of Public Spaces Standard, including for outdoor place spaces. The County’s Accessibility Coordinator created consultation documents in conjunction with the Middlesex Accessibility Advisory Committee. Municipalities are to consult with the MAAC for any capital projects involving playgrounds. The Municipality of Southwest Middlesex has completed this consultation for this project.
