With the Municipal election coming in October, winds of change are not only vibrant in Strathroy-Caradoc but also in neighbouring Adelaide Metcalfe Township. There has recently been quite a bit of internal candidate movement to the tune of a new incoming Mayor which will be elected in October. Councillor Susan Clarke is in the running for Mayor and right now running unopposed as former Mayoral candidate Gerald Sanders is now running for Councillor and current 2-term Mayor Kurtis Smith will not seek re-election. Mayor Smith declined an interview with myFM but did release a statement on his personal social media page saying “For the first time in my voting life, I have decided that my name will not be on the ballot in Adelaide Metcalfe. I have dedicated a dozen years to the community of Adelaide Metcalfe and I am looking forward my next chapter.”
As far as the 4 seats up for grabs for Councillor, currently there are 6 in the running with current Deputy Mayor Mary Ann Hendrikx running as the Deputy Mayor position will be eliminated and incumbent Mike Brodie along with newcomers Gerald Sanders, Eric Denison, Garett Kingma, and Arend Noordhof. August 19th at 2pm is the deadline for any candidates to officially enter the election.
