Great news for Ontarians, as of January 1st, you no longer need a doctors note for certain prescriptions for common illnesses. Pharmacist and Owner of Bossons Pharmacy and Home Health Care here in Strathroy, Mike Gleiser says “Pharmacist Assessments” will help wait times and increase access to health care.
Gleiser says if you think you have a common ailment, you can call your local pharmacy they will be able to help determine what course of action you should take. Pharmacists can now give prescriptions for hay fever, oral thrush, pink eye, dermatitis, menstrual cramps, acid reflux, hemorrhoids, cold sores, impetigo, insect bites and hives, tick bites, sprains and strains, and urinary tract infections. Gleiser says this is a step in the right direction for Ontarians.
Pharmacists can see patients sometimes 14 times a year, that’s more than the average health care provider.
