County intersections and the need for traffic lights at those locations was one of the agenda items at a recent Middlesex County Council meeting.
For Strathroy-Caradoc, County Road 33 which is Second Street and Head Street, even though with potential development coming, the County felt traffic volumes are still too low to warrant lights.
County Road 39 or Metcalfe Street East and Head Street, will be getting lights. The County stated the traffic volumes well exceed the minimum warrants.
County Road 81 or Adelaide Road and Parkhouse Drive, even though development on the horizon, this intersection is still well below traffic signal warrant volumes.
Also County Road 15 or Carriage Road and County Road 35 being Littlewoods Drive, due to increased commercial development and traffic volumes, traffic signals are warranted.
County Engineer Chris Traini told myFM, the recommendation approved was to have the traffic signals included as an item in the capital budget, so that still needs to work through that process. If approved, the hope is to see lights installed by later this year or early 2024. Traini says timing is everything in how long it takes to order and receive electronic components, like traffic signal controllers. That typically adds between 6 and 8 months to the timeline of traffic signal installation projects.
