Speed limit reductions in area school zones and downtown core was approved this week by Strathroy-Caradoc Council. Following several public complaints, the Traffic Committee met on January 24, and reviewed concerns and developed an action plan focusing on speed reduction. Staff also recommended the identification of the areas as Community Safety Zones. This will allow for the Police to double the speeding fines in those areas. Director of Engineering and Public Works Jake Strauss told council, they would be looking to have signage up by July 1st to allow time for drivers to adjust to the changes before school commences again in September. When asked about Second Street now that newer roads will be built with new residential area there, Strauss stated that Second Street is a county road and Middlesex County has no plans to change any speed limits on County roads, which includes Second Street and also Carroll Street which fronts Mary Wright School.
