Chatham-Kent has the possibility of becoming a single riding in 2024 if the Federal Boundaries Commission for Ontario’s proposed realignment is passed in Parliament. Chatham-Kent is represented by Chatham-Kent-Leamington and the Thames River is the divide with Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
The proposal suggests Ridgetown, Bothwell, Thamesville, Highgate, and Moraviantown would be a part of Elgin-Middlesex-Thames. This riding would also include Strathroy-Caradoc, Warwick, Middlesex Centre, West Elgin, Dutton Dunwich and parts of Southwold, Central Elgin, Thames Centre and Dawn-Euphemia.
If the proposal passes, the new boundaries would take effect in April 2024.
The growth in Ontario requires a new riding to meet the quota of just over 116,000 people in each electoral district.
