The debate over Strathroy-Caradoc’s Fire Master plan specifically the new build or re-locating of Station 1 was again part of this week’s Council meeting, and at times a little heated between council members. Back in March, Council requested further data about the total number of emergency response service calls for 2022, including asking that service call data highlight calls by each station. This week, the Fire Department provided a report outlining response call data particular to each fire station to be received for information only but that didn’t stop the station 1 debate including Ward 2 Councillor Brian Derbyshire addressing those from the Fire Department in attendance at Council chambers from setting the record straight.
Derbyshire went on to say he’s simply looking out for residents best interests.
Ward 1 Councillor Steve Pelkman chimed in and stated originally he thought putting station 1 beside the Police station made sense but since then he’s changed that mindset.
Council did receive the information provided by the Fire Department and the consensus appeared to be that the fire master plan should be moving forward, with no estimate on any timeline regarding it.
