myFM reported on Tuesday that Ontario is investing $78 million in telecommunications infrastructure to help municipalities and emergency response centres transition to Next Generation 9-1-1. We spoke with Strathroy-Caradoc Director of Finance, Bill Dakin who told us where the just over $1.2 million will be headed.
Dakin talked to myFM about the next steps in the 911 project.
The project which technically got underway in 2022 needs to be completed by March of 2025 and they plan to start testing the 911 in the summer of 2024. The municipal IT department will lead the project with technical support from police and other providers. The total funding awarded is $1,203,618.
