Middlesex Centre has earned recognition as a Dementia Friendly CommunityTM Supporter, highlighting its dedication to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. This acknowledgment positions Middlesex Centre as a trailblazer in our region. 75% of the municipality’s staff underwent dementia-friendly training, emphasizing interactions with the public, and hosted a three-week workshop series in the fall of 2023, focusing on reducing dementia risks.
In Canada, nearly 70% of individuals with dementia live at home. Building strong community alliances is crucial in ensuring their continued involvement and engagement. Middlesex Centre Mayor Aina DeViet remarked, “According to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Ontario may experience a 202% surge in dementia cases between 2020 and 2050.”
