There are plans coming down the pipe to upgrade downtown Strathroy, which will focus on the intersection of Front and Frank Streets where some of the upgrades will include replacing water mains that are over 100 years old along with 70 year old sewers.
In addition, smaller improvements in Mount Brydges, along Adelaide Road will also be made.
Mayor Colin Grantham says this work is needed and should have been done long ago.
The approximate hit to local taxpayers is in the more than $11.8 million range and would probably consume about a year to complete.
The project isn’t just about what’s underground, but also streets and sidewalks that don’t meet Ontario’s accessibility rules, including streetlights that don’t meet the municipal standards.
Although the actual construction starts later this year, the public can share their opinions on how the streets should look at a few upcoming meetings that are being planned.
