
In April, the unemployment rate in the London area remained steady, with Statistics Canada reporting no change from the previous month. This stability comes after three consecutive months of increases from January to March. The labour force, encompassing individuals aged 15 and above actively engaged in employment or seeking work, experienced a slight uptick in April. Additionally, the labour participation rate, indicating the proportion of the population within the labour force, saw a marginal increase to 66.2 per cent, up from 66 per cent in March.
The London Census Metropolitan Area, inclusive of areas like Strathroy, and St. Thomas, maintained its unemployment rate at 6.4 per cent. Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.1 per cent, mirroring March’s figure. In Ontario, the rate also saw minimal fluctuation, holding at 6.2 per cent last month. Ontario added 25,000 jobs in April, with the manufacturing sector contributing 5,800 positions. This marks the fourth consecutive month of job growth in Ontario’s economy.
