If you think we’re seeing more severe weather in recent years, you’re right. The latest weather warnings and watches are all the proof we need. We asked Environment Canada Senior Climatologist David Phillips about the increase of tornadoes during the warmer months in southern and eastern Ontario.
He does say that they are smaller than what would be seen in places like Texas but do a lot of damage. Phillips says there are other concerns for our region too.
We live in the thunderstorm capital of Canada too, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, and hailstorms are becoming more and more common as well. Another concern Phillips says we need to have top of mind is how quickly the weather can change and change back.
He says make sure you watch the forecast closely before and during your summer outings and of course be aware of what’s happening around you.
