Lianne Rood, Conservative Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, has introduced a practical Private Members Bill. This bill aims to reduce taxes for campgrounds by officially recognizing them as small businesses. This reclassification will provide campgrounds with additional capital to invest in conservation efforts, facility maintenance, wildlife management, weather recovery, and enhanced services for campers.
“While the NDP-Liberals ignore the pleas of the camping industry and tax them into hardship, Conservatives are committed to delivering this sensible tax cut for our dedicated small businesses,” stated MP Rood.
Canada boasts over 5,600 campgrounds, enjoyed by more than 70% of Canadians who engage in outdoor and wilderness activities. These campgrounds employ over 140,000 Canadians and typically operate with slim profit margins, making it challenging to reinvest in necessary upkeep and improvements.
“While Justin Trudeau can jet off to luxury resorts for a $230,000 taxpayer-funded vacation whenever he pleases, most Canadians simply aspire to spend a few nights under the stars with their families,” said MP Rood. “Only Common Sense Conservatives will ease the tax burden on small businesses, helping them thrive and providing Canadian families with the chance to connect with nature during the summer.”
