The planters on Caradoc Street in Strathroy which have been the root of plenty of discussion since they were first built will now go through minor adjustments and modifications.
At the June 6th Council meeting, Councillor Donna Pammer made the motion that staff be directed to modify the street planters on Caradoc Street between Metcalfe and Front Streets, in consultation with affected residents, to shorten the boxes to allow for greater driveway access and/or reduce the height of the boxes/plants to increase the sight lines. This week at Council, staff presented other options that might suit council, some that came with associated costs, but Councillor Pammer reiterated her intent.
Councillor Frank Kennes agreed that the public feeling on the planters as of late has gotten better.
As noted during Council discussion, changes to the height of plant life in the Caradoc Street planters have already resulted in improved sightlines for residents and businesses. Council approved the revised motion for staff to meet with affected residents, and work towards a modification of the planters that will be suitable.
