What started as grassroots effort to ensure people’s pets were fed is going strong years later in the form of the Peterborough Pet Food Bank.
On October 4, the initiative will mark 11 years of requesting and gathering pet food donations, and ensuring their distribution to those struggling to feed their pets after meeting their own food needs.
Pet Food Bank founder Kathi Curtin-Williams, who remains at the helm, launched the initiative after seeing firsthand the need and then enlisting others.
Curtin-Williams says her ongoing Pet Food Bank coordination remains rooted in her lifelong desire to help where and when she can.
With distribution locations on Crawford Drive and Brown Street, Curtin-Williams says people are welcome to bring donations to her home at 467 Albert Street and she’ll see that they are passed on to those in need.
