The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) has launched an attendance area review for Strathroy-Caradoc and Adelaide Metcalfe communities. The review aims to optimize learning environments, address enrollment pressures, and plan for a future new school in Strathroy.
Key Findings
Caradoc Public School faces increasing enrollment pressures due to housing developments in Mount Brydges. Boundary changes are unlikely to make a significant difference, so the board plans to seek funding for a permanent addition to the school.
Adelaide W.G. MacDonald Public School is experiencing growth due to Strathroy’s expanding settlement area. No immediate boundary changes are proposed, but future changes may occur if a new school is approved.
Caradoc North Public School is over capacity and projected to reach 130% utilization by 2031. A small boundary change is recommended to reduce pressure.
Mary Wright and North Meadows Public Schools are proposed for boundary adjustments to balance student numbers.
Recommendations
The review outlines three phases:
Caradoc North & Mary Wright: Move 66 students to Mary Wright (preferred option) or move 114 students, which may impact programming.
Mary Wright & North Meadows: Move 29 students to North Meadows (preferred) or move 143 students, causing greater disruption.
New Elementary School in Strathroy: Establish a new boundary affecting Mary Wright, North Meadows, and Adelaide W.G. MacDonald schools, with planned moves for 318 students upon approval.
Looking Ahead
Without a new school, enrollment pressures will strain existing facilities. With a new school, area schools will operate at optimal capacity, supporting future growth.
Public meetings for each affected school will run through early 2025, with a board decision expected by May 2025. Changes would take effect in September 2026.
