London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is celebrating a record-breaking 2024 with 6,452 births, marking a five per cent increase from the previous year.
This surpasses the 2022 record of 6,139 births. The year included 135 sets of twins and six sets of triplets. Fridays were the busiest day, and July saw the most births, with an average of 17 babies born daily, peaking at 22 on the busiest day. Of the patients, 69% were from London, 11% from Middlesex County, 19% from southwestern Ontario, and 1% from elsewhere.
Some patients came from Strathroy, where Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital closed its obstetrics department due to low birth rates and staffing issues.
